I feel utterly defective. I feel like I can't do anything right, anything to change things. I'm stuck somewhere between wanting to cry and wanting to just sleep it all away...

I think sleep is winning.
I must have slept for 15 hours last night and today...

Hope all your sleep has rejuvenated you some, so you can face your issues! Sometimes a good cry is helpful, too, though, to release some of those bad feelings. Hope things get better for you soon!

I wish I could focus better on all the work I need to do, but work makes me more tired, and being more tired gives me weird dreams that distract me from my work, which makes feel like a defective failure even more.

As I read through the other posts, I began wondering if taking small, simple steps through your day might help. I does work for me. Each morning when I feel like you do right now (and it happens alot) I set one small goal to accomplish. Some mornings it is as simple as going for a walk or taking a shower. Your plate might be overwhelmingly full right now. Prioritize the things that you can accomplish and take baby steps toward the bigger problems. One quote that has been around my family for years is the serenity prayer. "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference." In this moment in your life it will be necessary to "keep it simple." Everything else will eventually fall into place. Good luck with your journey.

Nothing went right today. I wasn't able to get anything done. I just feel horrible; I know it wasn't my fault but the level of guilt I feel just won't subside...

I can identify with so much of what you have said, Umbral_Seraph. I wish I had some great words of wisdom to offer that would help whisk away all the sadness and guilt. I myself have gotten into that depression–sleep–guilt cycle; boy, is it a vicious one!

I hope things start to get better soon.
