Alright, about two months ago I tried to commit suicide and had to go to a psych ward for a week. There I had blood test and they said that I once had mono ( Like me and my mother thought.. but then the results came back negative..This was a few months before I went to the hospital.)

Anyway I have stayed home all this week because my whole body aches, and i'm tired (even though I can't sleep) and my stomach aches badly. However before these symptoms came about I was very depressed to the point where I was just so miserable that I was miserable to everyone else.

I looked it up online and I couldn't really. decide.. or understand which it was. or both. So I thought you might know!
-Thank You!

Hi jakie0406,

I have had mono twice. I agree, some of the symptoms do feel similar to symptoms of depression and I think mono made my depression worse. With the mono I had severe lethargy (trouble climbing stairs without stopping to rest) but also the serious sore throat, low fever and swollen glands. On the other hand, the symptoms of major depression include body aches and severe exhaustion too. But... is there a chance you could get back to the doctor to rule out any other physical issues other than mono? You might want to have your thyroid checked, check for any autoimmune problems or deficiencies, especially vitamin D. Some symptoms of being very low in vitamin D are feelings of anxiety. (I think my own D deficiency made my base-line anxiety much worse). The best treatment for depression is a combination of talk therapy and medication prescribed by a knowledgeable psychologist - for as long as it takes to feel better. The medication should be able to help a bit with lethargy and body aches eventually but physical therapy is helpful too.
My thoughts are with you. You are important and you deserve to feel better.

Elana

hi jakie,

I've had mono, with the exhaustion you describe, but also with persistent fever for a good 2 weeks. In my experience fatigue from depression is not as bad, though it's also bad. I don't know what my point is, just to say whichever one you're suffering from, I've been there, and it's bad and I'm thinking of you.

Well, even if you can't determine which you are experiencing now....I don't think mono can make you suicidal. So you were dealing with depression two months ago. Have you been in treatment for it? If not, this would be a great time to start. Even if it is just the mono.
