One time, I went in to see my shrink and he had been to see a comedy show. He spent the whole time talking about it and the jokes and laughing. He made me laugh too. For the next couple of days, every time I was stressed or anxious or down, one of his jokes popped into my head.
Family members were always asking how things were going or what had happened recently and I was always repeating the sad and discouraging things. I realized that repeating the bad stuff again and again was feeding my anxiety and depression. Now sometimes when someone asks I just say that I prefer not to talk about it because it would just make me feel worse. roses |

Thanks for pointing this out to us, Roses! I usually say I'm fine to folks, cuz they ask out of decorum not because the really want to know the whole nitty-gritty. I think too, when we are in a down mood, it perpetuates itself. When I am really down, I don't come here and read the forums much as it's too painful. But, conversely, I feel better when I sense I am helping others. And, sometimes, it does us good to vent and express our hidden thoughts and fears. I guess it's all about talking about it in the right context, for the right reasons. And good to pose ourselves as cheerful and seek more pleasant surroundings to feel better.
