It has been a really rough day. I accidently hit a cat with my car this morning... he ran out in front of me all of a sudden, and I couldn't stop in time. I took him to the vet, but he was so badly injured that they had to euthanize him. I haven't been able to find out who the owner is. I feel just awful. I've been hiding in bed crying much of the afternoon, having difficulty organizing my thoughts and actions. Send some good thoughts in this direction, will you? ...toward me and the shaggy orange cat, and toward the cat's people, whoever they might be.
thanks,
garden gal

How kind of you to take the cat to the vet, gardengal, in an attempt to save it. I'm so sorry that happened. Sending hugs and good thoughts your way.

Hiya Garden Gal,

I am so sorry for your accident. I never hit an animal but I did once come six inches from hitting a four year old. It is so scary and the feelings that come with it I found were depression and anxiety. Hope you feel better soon.

Love and hugs,
Tara

I almost hit a squirrel once. I know it doesn't seem like much but it was scary for me and I can only imagine how it must feel to hit a cat. These things aren't always your fault. Please don't blame yourself, you were really good to take it to the vet, I know some people wouldn't =(

take care, and hope you feel better

I've never hit an animal but I was in the passenger seat when my mom hit a dog a few years back. It was very traumatic for both of us, so I can imagine how you're feeling now. Hitting that cat was an accident, and you were so kind to take it to the vet. Look at it this way ... by taking it to the vet rather than just leaving it on the side of the road, you helped ease its suffering. You're a good person, garden gal, and I'm sending lots of hugs and good vibes your way.

Thanks for all of your kind words. After it was all over yesterday, I spent most of the afternoon in bed sobbing. Then I went to my depression group last night, and wasn't terribly coherent there either. I'm still sad, but in a better place with things this morning. I'm seeing my therapist later this morning, so hopefully that will be helpful as well.
Thanks for this!

I'm so sorry! But like the others said, there was nothing you could have done, and you even took the cat to the Vet, what a sweet and caring thing to do!
I can somewhat relate, I hit a rabbit once. It's a horrible feeling. I'm sure it was even worse for you, seeing how that cat might have had a family it belonged to, mine was "just" a wild rabbit.

I'm glad you're feeling a little better today.
