So I check my mailbox today and my temporary disability came through! I got my first three checks all at once today, and it looks like the will owe me one more to cover the days before I returned to work this past week.
This will help a lot. Horray!

I'm treating myself because of this by turning my heat on... just for a little to take the chill out of the kitchen.
I'm a little worried that it won't work properly because it hasn't been serviced last year or the year before (because of my depression). It is oil heat and if it is not cleaned regularly it can smoke up the house. I already smell it kicking in and no smoke so that's good. I have an automatic thermostat but I would be afraid to have it turn on the heat right before I come home from work in case the furnace is not working. This gives me two days at home to try it out at least.

Man, 3 checks at once, all unexpected (well, from the standpoint of not knowing when they were coming) -- that's my dream day! LOL
Which reminds me, I haven't checked my snail mail yet today because I've barely been able to get out of bed. I always hope for checks, even if I'm not expecting any!  Candy |

Well with the time lapse I was worried that I hadn't been approved for the temp disability. So at this point I wasn't sure if I was going to see a check or not, and I was trying not to get my hopes up or get anxious about it... so while not totally unexpected there was still an element of happy surprise when I saw the envelopes. When I saw the first one I thought it was the check but it could have been something else, but when I saw two more I knew it had to be them. I had to calm myself down before opening them

dex, for the past two winters, i've lived in old houses that didn't have adequate heat. i know how happy you are that you can turn that furnace on!! i, too, have a nice furnace now. i started house shopping in JULY this year.

Well I didn't hear the furnace overnight but the house is not FREEZING this morning. I'm still heating up with the space heater in the bathroom... I'm keeping this very low because I still have to tightly ration my oil. It didn't get cold quickly overnight even though my rooms started at the same temperature, probably because everything below the top floor was also warmer, rather than just the two rooms with the space heaters, so there was more "heat support" through the whole house.
