Hi. I went back to my doctor recently and discussed starting new meds as I was having difficulty coping without anything. She put me on Celexa (Citalopram). I was just wondering if anyone has taken/is taking it and how they feel about it. Did it help? Were there other drug interactions? What were some side effects?

Hello, Heisenberg! See my older post -- not much to see, really.

I have been on Celexa about 10 months. I was crying all day. I hardly got out of bed most days.
At first I was on 20mg and that stopped the crying but I still had no motivation or enthusiasm over anything. I just went to 40mg (one in the morning one at night) and had the best 2 weeks in years. Happy, enjoying the day, actually getting up and joining my husband in a hike. Like I said... its been years. My side affects have been minimal. Weight gain (20lbs), achy muscles and occasional headache but the benefits for me outweigh (no pun) any side affect. Happy Healing to us!!! |

I've taken Celexa before but it didn't help much for me. However many people react to medication's differently and known people where it has worked for them. I didn't have any side effects from it. If you look online you can find websites where it list the side effects you may have. Did you ask your doctor for a list of side effects from the drug and drug information? He/She should be able to print you out a copy of it. When I order prescription drugs from the pharmacy they also give me a list of information about the drug as well with my order.

I took Celexa for a little over a year and it didn't help. Ever few months I had to have it increased and during that time twice my doctor added Trazodone (the first time was just for a month because I was having a hard time). I finally got up to 60mg and after a few months it stopped helping (even with the Trazodone). So I went off Celexa and we increased my Trazodone and now I'm on Zoloft and it's working a lot better.
