Wall of text coming, people who don't read the whole thing skip to the bold section at the bottom.
I come to the internet because the anonymity helps me not lie, manipulate, or simply not say things. My overall question is WHO (If anybody) I go to, and how I find them. I am getting to the point where I need professional help for my depression/lack of motivation Things that could get in the way (And why in parentheses) I have Aspergers (They might focus on this, when it's not the issue) I have a genius IQ (Not many people do) I love ****ing with people dumber than I am (I won't respect the person if they make suggestions that are common sense, or come off as a general moron) I live in Vermont, a state with a pop of 600,000 I live in the capital of Vermont; Montpelier, population 8000 (Everybody knows everything about everybody). What I NEED: In order to open up to somebody I need to respect them not only as a person but as a qualified person in their relation to me. Their relation to me is a therapist, so I have to know that they are not only smart, logical people, but also good at being a therapist. I need to know that the information I tell them stays, don't get me wrong. I know there are confidentiality laws... but who are we kidding... people break those all the time. There are parts of my thinking that are outright... insane, and I don't want to be locked up because I am talking hypothetically. Just because I can think of something, does not mean I would do it, or believe it to be true. Now... How do I go about finding something like this? I don't want people near me to know. I just want to be better. I need to be better. I need a way to find a good, qualified therapist in person around Montpelier, Vermont. I have no idea how to start this... so please help. |

You can go online and look for psychologists /psychiatrists in your area, plus you can check on their background, i.e. where they got their degree, how long they've been practicing, if there are any complaints against them.
You can also interview them before actually starting therapy. If they seem to "click" with you, then you can begin seeing them. Obviously it's important that you have a good rapport with them. Since I didn't care who knew, I also used "word of mouth" but that isn't "ok" with everyone. ![]() Best of luck -- I hope you find someone you can really relate to. God bless & take care. hugs, Lee |
