Hi there, I'm new to this site and basically I joined because I feel like I should. I've had depression since I was 9 years old and I literally feel like I'm grasping my life by my fingernails...I had considered killing myself in the past but deep down I just couldn't do it-I went to therapy when I was 9 and it lasted till I was 17 and supposedly my therapist thought it was time for me to make it out on my own and move on since she thought I had gotten over my depression.
To which is semi true- after I graduated high school and started college my depression seemed to be melting away but now it's come back for me with a vengeance. I don't know what to do ![]() It's even harder now because I've transferred to another college recently and I live three hours away from my friends and family and I just feel alone. I've tried making new friends but every time I do so, they don't want anything to do with me! they give me the stink eye as if they can smell the depression off me! I've tried speaking to my family about this and they seem to care but then again...they're only partially listening to me!! I hate being alone, but maybe I should just accept it? ![]() |

Have you thought about giving therapy another try? A lot of colleges have counselling centres for students where you could go and talk to them about your depression.
I'm new here too but from what I found there are a lot of good resources here and people are quite friendly. I hope you start to feel less lonely. I know the feeling and it can suck. |

Hi LittleMiss, welcome to PC. I know what you are going through. I too have been fighting depression since childhood. I have had many years when I thought I had gotten rid of it only to have it sneak back into my life. I've found that there are many things that can trigger it - poor diet, lack of restful sleep, stress (at school or home), maybe even trouble adjusting to a new environment.
I think people don't listen because they don't understand depression and they don't take it as seriously as they would a physical illness. Maybe you could try counselling again and/or involvement in an interesting team activity at school to help ease this bout you're going through. Just don't give up, okay? And don't accept your current state of loneliness. Think of it as a phase you're passing through that has an end. I wish you all the best and that you'll get help when and where you need it. Sending hugs from the Caribbean ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi welcome to PC. I know the lonely thing sucks it is hard when you are away from friends and family. I am sure they have some on campus therapy you could probably check out. This is a great place to help feel not quite so alone. It has really helped me.

Me, too.
I do a lot of work from home. As a result I have few social contacts. I'm getting used to it. It's surreal. |
