I've dealt with chronic depression (dysthemia sp?) for 30 of my 52 years. I've been off meds and therapy for 3 years trying to see if I could do it on my own. It's been tough and I am really becoming disabled, dysfunctional, and not taking care of my family and responsibilties. I'm shutting down and cannot get motivated, I don't know why my family loves me anymore. I am trying to at least get the motivation to seek out some professional help again.

Hello & Welcome, Abbynormal77! At least one mental health practitioner has told me that it is possible to suffer from both dysthymia and major depression. As you are "shutting down," I think you have the right idea about going for help.

Motivation... I remember motivation... It's one of those things I cannot summon at will anymore.

I agree with vaarier... it sounds like it's time to contact your physician and get back on medication or at least back in counseling to get feedback on what is going on and how you are doing.
