Any other depressed teenagers on the site who would like to talk? Or adults who were depressed as a teen. I just need someone to talk to who understands what I am going through, and I am guessing that I'm not the only one who feels that way, none of my friends understand it. I would love to hear your experiences. I am 13, pretty depressed right now, I just spent the whole day lying in bed doing crap. I actually cut myself once this afternoon, only a little though. I really hate my life. I want to go to a doctor so I can get a diagnosis, and maybe start on some medicine and therapy, but i don't know how to approach my parents. I don't really talk to them about many things and idk how they will react, can anyone help me with this?

Being a teen is not something many people want to do again. It does get better as you get older.
There is a lot of angst for the "happiest" teen. I hope you can get the help you need soon.

Warmly,
Kate

I'm sorry you're feeling so down right now. Know that it can get better. I was depressed as a teenager and was able to get the help I needed. Today I am the mother of a teenager. I know how hard it can be to talk to your parents. Are you in school right now? If you don't feel like you can talk to your parents, try to talk to your school nurse or a guidance counselor. They are there to help you and can help explain things to your parents and get you the help you need.

If you're not in school right now (not sure where you live. It's summer in the southern hemisphere), then you need to try to talk to your parents. Try to tell them that you think you are depressed and would like to see a doctor. Your regular pediatrician is a good place to start. And please don't hurt yourself again. You deserve to not be hurt by anyone, including yourself.

Please, talk to an adult as soon as you can.

Thank you, both of you. That helped. I might talk to my guidance counselor.
