Hey Guys-
I'm starting therapy again tomorrow. I think its gonna be really awkward cuz its been like a whole year and this new lady is a different kind of psychologist than i saw before so yeah... but the social worker at my school recommended her so i guess he thinks it'll work. I'm just kind of nervous, and I don't really want to go. My mom's making me go to therapy before she considers letting me take meds again. Sigh.

It may feel a little or a lot awkward at times between our T's and ourselves. But it will get better. Hopefully, you'll build a healthy, helpful relationship together.
Very best wishes to you ~ Relax...things will get better real soon. ![]()

Best wishes for a positive first session with the new psychologist!
So, you've had experience with meds in the past, yes? Did the meds help?

Changing therapists or beginning with a new one is always a scary thing because you don't know what to expect. A few things I have found that get me through the first few sessions:
- Most therapists are there to help and are not out to make you miserable. - It's okay to dislike the first session, as it often is the therapist getting a lot of background information on you. - You may be asked to fill out paperwork. It's okay, even normal, to not have all the answers. - Even though your mom is making you go, it is a good opportunity to learn more about yourself. This will help you in the long run. - If, after several sessions, you find you really don't like the therapist (it happens) speak up! Have your school counselor recommend another. Don't give up on therapy just because you have a personality conflict with the therapist. - Remind yourself as many times as you need to that this person is there to help. It's not going to be a disaster. In fact, you may find that you like having someone to talk to on a regular basis. Meanwhile, just hang in there until it's time to start. Then come back and tell us how it's going. ~Buggs ![]() |

I have had some wonderful sessions, some negative ones, some where it seems there is no progress and others that seem like I will never need her again. There will be good days and bad days. As long as both you and your therapist communicate well and both help eachother in reaching your goals, you will be alright. I hope we can help you along the way hun. Be nice to yourself now and then okay? You deserve to be heard.
