Nothing bad has actually happened to me , yet I feel so hopeless ! I have 2 beautiful children , a really supportive husband and a nice house , why is this not enough ??????
I think I have been hiding feelings of despair for sometime , it came to a head when I started taking panick attacks , I feel like there is no point to my life anymore , I dont even want to get dressed in the morning and generally I just feel trapped in this life . I have been on antidepressants for 3weeks now and seem to be feeling worse , although the crying has stopped which is good . Will I ever feel normal again ????? ![]() |

Well, sometimes depression is not about what is happening externally in your life. I have 2 great children, a supportive wife, a job I like, etc... and I still have depressive periods of my life. Sometimes it is just chemical... There's a name for depression that is about chemical stuff and not events in your life, but I forget at the moment.
And it does take sometimes a while for meds to kick in fully, I've heard up to 4-6 weeks for some people. The fact that you aren't crying may be a sign that they are beginning to work. Also, unfortunately, sometimes you have to try different meds until you find the right one. I hope that is not the case here and that you start feeling better! And while I can't answer the question about whether you will ever feel normal again, I do know that most depression is treatable and gets better with medication, therapy, or both. I have depression, but when on medication and not in some kind of life crisis I feel mostly normal... I'm glad you are here and hope you keep posting. ![]()

Hi Newtothis,
I have felt depressed even at times when my life seemed to be going well. Like dailyhealing said, sometimes depression can be chemical. For me I usually can sort of pin point some external factor that contributes to me becoming more depressed, but this isn't always the case. take care, I'm here if you need to talk. |
