Hi! I'm new to this and hope that this will hellp me. I've lived with severe depression since I was a child. Mainly due to abuse. The last 13 yrs. have been unbearable. I hate myself. I feel I should be able to control the depression. I have no friends. I'm a bore to be around. I lay around most of the time. It's a real problem to push myself to get up and do anything. I feel so lazy and unproductive. Sort of worthless. I had one bipolar/schizo affective episode and so afraid it will happen again.
I go to a psyciatrist and on meds, but they don't seem to help at all. They tell me I need to get out of the house and be with people. I have no place to go plus it takes all my energy to get out of the house. I don't like being alone but at the same time I don't feel like gettinng out of the house.
I feel so alone in this. People just don't get it and don't want to hear about it.

(((LostLamb)))

I've always had major depression and self-hate myself. It's a big struggle! The friends or colleagues that I made in school are all long-gone now. Anyway, I can relate.

It doesn't sound as though you're seeing a therapist. Is that right? For me, therapy is essential! I did discover that early in life. That's one plus in my childhood. I'd definitely recommend getting in to see a T once a week, and ask if there are support groups in your area. You can check out this site for information. http://www.nami.org

Support groups can help a lot too! I've been in a couple of groups in my life so far. Some people stay in support groups their entire lives, which is a possibility. Others come and go when they need it (the majority). And a few avoid support groups as much as possible (or entirely).

Support groups do want to hear what's going on ~ the trick is that sometimes people go off in a tangent about their problems. Group leaders try not to let that occur often, but it does happen occasionally. That can be pretty frustrating when you've got a lot on your mind that you were hoping to talk about, and this person took up almost the entire amount of group time that session. I've been there too.

I hope that things improve for us both very soon! Oh, and to PC!

That's easy advice to give; not so easy for someone suffering with depression to apply. Sometimes I wonder if even mental health professionals appreciate that...

Again, Welcome!

Welcome Lost Lamb. i hope that you find what you need here, PC definitely has a lot of people with great advice and great hugs... and as far as your quote up there...
Totally not alone! I have the same issue; it's like, I don't want to be alone, but it feels so not worth it to go anywhere, and i don't even feel like being with anybody. (Doesn't make sense, does it.)
Welcome again. Keep us updated.
