i am on meds for depression and backpain and am also seeing a regular physician and a psychologist. lately things have been getting somewhat better.

well, heres the deal. i also go to AA (I am an alcoholic) and about a week ago, one man was talking about having taken his grandson to the city pool, and I swear, this guy must have not known that women wear bathing suits at pools, because he started ranting and raving about how they were all trying to get raped, and when women get raped, they must have done something to deserve it, blah, blah, blah. Well, I got really upset--partly because it shocked me to hear it from him, because I have known him for three years and never heard him talk like that! PLus, it has happened to me and people have said the same thing about me--that I must have done something to deserve it. Well, when I got home, I started having really bad diarrhea, and all this week, it seems my depression has gotten worse again and the pain in my back has gotten worse too.

It sounds like alot of anxiety to me. Anxiety CAN cause diarrhea and it can also make your back hurt more only because you tense up much more, and when your muscles tense up, it certainly will make your back hurt.

I'm also a recovering alcoholic, and a spinal patient. Plus I suffer from depression too. So we have a lot in common! When I'm anxious, my back will SCREAM in pain! When I'm nervous, edgy, upset, mad, you name it, my back is a mess. It's all cause of getting tense. For us, it's best to try to stay as relaxed as possible, but in this day and age that's almost IMpossible!! There are just too many things to drive us nuts. LOL

Anyway, we all know that women CAN wear bathing suits and we are NOT asking to be raped. That guy needs to be kicked in the you=know=where!!! He's a big idiot! It doesn't matter WHAT women wear -- it doesn't give men the OK to rape them. SHEESH.

Hope you have a pain-free day. God bless. Hugs, Lee
Thanks for this!

I am sorry about the man at the AA meeting. I know it must bring up painful emotions for you. Idiot is the right word...he's an absolute idiot. It's unfortunate, but it's a fact of life that we all run into this sort of thing occasionally.

Did anyone try to facilitate the talk away from that "madness"? I hope that future meetings are more productive, positive and healing.

It's understandable that this type of encounter made your depression worse. It just makes the challenge of working through your depression that much more difficult. Great BIG Hug for you. I can relate on so many levels. Hope tomorrow is better.
Thanks for this!
