I am a night person so I prefer to work nights. Also less visitors and doctors to get in my way when I work at night.

Yeah, working overnights was awful for me. Not so much as during work (I worked at a coffee shop) but it was very isolating because I slept during the day and didn't have an actual life. (I still don't though and I work days, now, LOL)

For most people working graveyard shift upsets their circadian clock (body''s natural clock or rhythm). It can cause all sorts of trouble for people without mental health issues. For people with depression issues the problems can be devastating. For me, being a night person, I would much rather work or be up all night. Try posting in the sleep issues forum. There have been many sleep studies done and that forum may have some of the information.

Well my first and only job was working the graveyard shift, so I can't really compare it to working at any other time... but I am depressed.

i always kinda like the graveyard shift. It was quieter on that shift, and when I got home, no one was there cause the kids were in school, and the husband was working days, so i had the house to myself. It was quiet for sleeping, and if i didn't want to go straight to bed, it was quiet then too.

I really enjoyed it. My medication was working well too, so I did pretty well.

Hugs, Lee

I work shift work. We don't have an overnight shift, but the evening shift ends at 11 or midnight and then you're on call until morning. Switching from days to evenings really messes with my system. Sleep becomes problematic which makes my anxiety and depression worse. Unfortunately I like evening shifts because my manager isn't around and I can actually do my job and enjoy my patients without politics.

Good luck with the graveyard shift.

I just started working the midnight shift at a new job and love it. My mood seems to have improved slightly...but, of course, circumstances in my life may soon have a negative effect on my mood, despite my liking the midnight shift.
