My T taught me deep breathing exercise. It is not working. What other methods are there to relax and distract yourself when you are angry, sad, depressed , anxious and suicidal?

I find a guided meditation or body scan can help. Listening to the voice and concentrating on that gives me some peace.

Texting/calling a friend and talking about anything other than how I feel.

Watching stupid videos online. Buzzfeed has lots of kitty videos that distract me.

i like relaxation music.

either soft classical music, or music with nature sounds over the top.. the wind, the oceans, rain... that's always good

you can also get these vibrating massage chairs that have various settings to massage parts of your body

first off, it's only right for me to suggest calm radio.. that is a really good service- and has helped me out a lot

on that site you can listen to various stations.. so just piano music, just violin music, movie soundtracks, the works- they even have atmosphere channels.. so channels dedicated to playing ocean sounds- and other nature things

go to:

www.calmradio.com

as for individual artists / albums i'd suggest the following:

100 of the world's best melodies (compilation album)

blue sky classics- dan gibbson

anything by john seri

anything from hilary stag (love her music)

enya

kioti oldman

the album destiny by jim brickman (mainly piano)

anything by liquid mind

if you like pan pipe music, then ken davis

meditation music volume 5 (great compilation)

patrick ball

the mystic moods orkestra

and then, you can go for the original composers.. vivaldi, handle, mozart, etc.

hope this helps

I like to listen to relaxing music, or happy music, something upbeat. I also text my best friend. I watch good TV shows, ones that I love, like Spongebob, because it's silly and it takes me away from reality for awhile.

(((kittycat97))) ...

Things I LOVE To Do When Angry ...

Batting cages ... Nothing like knocking the @#$%! out of a softball or baseball while pretending it's the person, place, situation or thing you're totally pist off at ... !!!

Driving Range ... Nothing like knocking the @#$%! out of a golfball while pretending it's the person, place, situation or thing you're totally pist off at ... !!!

Blow Up Punching Clowns ... Nothing like knocking the @#$%! out of these guys, and the added bonus is they keep popping up for more ... !!! ... Set up a few around the house, that way one is always nearby ... !!!

It took a long, long time to get 33.5 years of built up anger out, but once I did I found that the deep breathing exercises actually do work ... Gotta get some of that anger out first though ... !!!

And ... This is a constructive way to do it without hurting yourself or somebody else too ... !!!

A body scan is a meditation technique where you spend time focusing on different body parts. It brings your attention into your body. I usually start with my toes and work up.

Google "body scan mindfulness" you should find some guided ones. The 45 min ones work best for me but aren't always practical.
