I've been off of anti-depressants about 1-1/2 months now, by doctor's order. I was miserable with the anti-depressant, but now in the last week or so I'm feeling the blues big time. I'm scared that I will just get worse. I don't want to go back on those meds, and I really don't know why I'm feeling blue.

hartbroken,
there are several antidepressants available now. Everyone's body reacts diffently to medications, and the ones you were on may not have agreed with you.

Are you seeing a psychiatrist or psycologist? If there are problems in your life, either current or past, talking to someone might help you work through some of them. Sometimes both medications and "talk therapy" work well together, and its possible that you won't have to take antidepressants for the rest of your life. Let your Dr. know that the meds aren't working and see if you can get in touch with someone to talk to.

I hope you will be feeling better soon.

Sorry you're having such a blue time. It's good that you have enough awareness to notice the change. Be sure to let your doctor know.

I think just the fear of the depression coming back might be causing you depression. Maybe talk to your doctor about working in therapy on ways to combat the anxiety about depression returning.

Personally, I am very often haunted by the anixety that I will "lose my mind" or fall back into the horrid pits of depression (which are quite intolerable). If I had better tools to fight this anxiety, I'd be better off.

Take every day at a time (maybe even divide days into manage chunks) and find ways to stay healthy that day. At night, remind yourself what went well that day, or when you catch yourself getting depressed, try to understand why it is happening.
