This is my first time on the boards though I've been using the resources at this site for some time. I'm a 34yo mother of two girls ages 3 1/2 and 1. Recently I sought treatment for depression, from which I've suffered mildly throughout my life. As a SAHM it was impacting my ability to function pretty severely. I've been medicated on Lexapro 20 mg. for about 5 weeks and for the past 2 have been feeling VERY manic--increasingly so every day. My kids are screaming at present so I'll cut it short but any other similar experiences? I'm scared to start trying other meds as this is SOOOO much better than my previous inertia. But I know it's not normal and *suspect* it's not ideal...

Dear Desibrat, Don't know what SAHM means probably due to the fact that I am a Limey. However I do understand Bipolar depression/hypomania and I am suffering the depressive side very badly at the mo. My meds are ye olde PROZAC and ATIVAN and the constant threat of being SECTIONED (taken into hospital against my will) hangs ever over me. How you manage with two beautiful children as well as your bad health is beyond me but I respect and admire you for it. I only have a German Shepherd pup but he is a full time occupation for me, when i am not the general gofa and dofa of my family's needs (which is nearly every day.) Hang in there Desibrat, you have a friend here is u want to talk. U can PM me if u like, I promise I don't bite....or condemn! My support I offer, My best wishes I send. Keep Truckin'.

Welcome Desibrat. You may consider that the Lexapro may be causing other symptoms. I think this is something that you should talk to your pdoc about so that he can see if it is relevant. Take care of yourself.

Yes, it would be best to talk to your pdoc about this.

Welcome to the forums. I hope to see more of you and your children are really beautiful!!

While I have been here at these forums, I have noticed that someone is here always to listen and tell you what you exactly need to hear.

Hope you enjoy your stay.

PS: like the picture, cute kids!

Thank you so much for your post. I'm so sorry, but I carried the lingo over here from the "baby boards" (the only place I've really lingered on message boards before now.) SAHM=Stay At Home Mom. You can guess how this contributes to my depression, perhaps. No outside interaction and my time is THEIRS! My beautiful girls are the loves of my life, but they are unwittingly draining the life force from me. I know that you can relate to some degree because you've got a furbaby (your German Shepard.) My oldest "baby" is actually my dog, Kirra, almost 8, a lab-x adopted from our local shelter. I also have her companion, Max, a 2 1/2 year old lab. They're great arent' they? The unconditional love is incomperable. Yet they draw on our energy too...

Thank you! Yes, I agree the Lexapro is causing the manic symptoms. Talked to my therapist today about it and she agrees I need to discuss it with my family doc with whom I have a Friday appt. I am scared though! I know it can be a crapshoot with these psychotropic drugs and this is almost a *good* side effect! She thinks I *might* be bipolar II, though, not merely depressive.

Thanks! I agree. Though as I said before, am REALLY nervous about it. Have you tried multiple meds? Side effects? And thanks for the compliment on my girls. I agree, but I'm biased!

Thanks for the welcome. It's good to know that there is someone listening in cyberspace! And thanks, also, for the compliments on my girls. I do love them so!

Hi Desibrat and welcome to the forums. I think it would be a good idea to call the doctor and talk to him/her about how the medicine is causing you to feel. Maybe less of it or a different kind of anti-depressant would be a better solution for you.

Hope you keep posting. New here
