i was reading a news paper today when i was drawn to a piece that really angred me
but before i show you the piece i thought i would give you some background on the subject !.......over here in england we have a tv programme called big brother ( 14 people locked in a house for 13 weeks) and one of the people has tourette syndrome.

here's how it reads

"we all knew that depression and stress had become the new backache for the work shy and the benefit scroungers --- but i was left literally speechless by the news that people are using tourette syndrome as the new excuse to sponge off the rest of us.
it would appear that as long as you can do a half passable impression of big brother's pete, youre on to a life of luxury living off the taxpayer
and make no mistake incapacity benefit isn't just for christmas, its for life.
more then 60 per cent of those claiming it for over five years have never had a proper medical assessment.
i ******* dont know about you but ****** **** that makes me ******* angry "

that was the piece that made me feel sooooo angry as i now feel like a fake a scronger for having depression, i am claiming incapacity benefit but its not because i want to , it because i have no other money coming in ,after my sick pay ran out.
but now after reading that i feel im being watch by everyone , being pointed at by people , thinking im fakeing everything ....
yes there are some people who throw sickies from work saying that they are stressed or depressed by to paint so many with the same brush ( 60 % ) i find this outrageous.
and in closing i just want to say that i have emailed this newspaper letting them know how i feel about this piece.

Hmph.

And people wonder why stereotypes exist; its because of uneducated opinionist who let these bais statements on tv and in our newspapers!

Just try to remind yourself that your better than these people for one thing: you think before you begin spreading nonsense about real concerns and issues that people have.

I'm just as mad as you are.

newspaper made me sooooooo angry

That was a horrible article and the person who wrote it needs a little education. Too bad I am not from England as I might have a little fun enlightening them. Also, here in US disability pays a very small pitance that is almost impossible to live off unless you live in sibsidized housing, have subsidized health care and don't need to drive. I am with you. Hey, why not give us the email for this author so we can have our say with him/her?

i have just come in from work and yes i also emailed this person even though hubby did this is what i said;

i dont know were you get your information from but i suffer from depression and work full time, brought up four children one of 21 nearly 22 with lots of mental health problems and will never have the pleasure of working, but lives her life to the full, i have taken medication now for over a year and i only had a fortnight of last year,

even after attempting suicide i went back to work the next night,

this was only possible because of the good gp i have,

i wouldnt wish depression on my worst enemy let alone the many other mental illness out there including tourette's , not only do theses ppl suffer from these mental illness but they also have to put up with small minded ppl like you condemming them all there lives , try living this sort of life before you shout about it
