For me, now that Christmas is over, the presents are open, the carols have been sung, and the celebration of the birth of Jesus is concluded ( I know it goes on all year long but you know what I am saying here) NOW is the real time of depression for me.
It's all OVER...for me it been the anticipation of it all that has kept me from being depressed over the holidays! Now it's done....a few more days and the tree comes down and the decorations get packed up....and its 2013. Now what is gonna distract me from the hell my life has become battling depression and anxiety? UGH!!!! |

(new here, think I posted too soon). I've been busy, enjoying cooking, decorating & listening to Christmas Carols. Now the quiet after the storm sets in, leaving me feeling empty and alone.

I know what you mean. Christmas in itself does not mean much to me. I have stated that very well in my previous posts on here. I do like the month of December as the decorations go up. Also people seem a little more cheerful. And then when it gets around Christmas, things seem to slow down more than usual. At where I live people go away, so it's nice and quiet. And I would anticipate a "Christmas Miracle", but that never happens!
When it's over, the decorations go down and it seems like it's back to reality. Normally for me, getting into the New Year, that's when I would go for physical check ups. They have been good for me in the past, but I wonder if this will be the year something will go wrong. I have a lot of health anxiety. This past year I had some health challenges. I'm supposed to have an colonoscopy this year. I feel like I have more to dread than I do at having things to look forward to. This has been a not so good year for me. Things seem to be getting worse instead of better in every aspect of my life. I hope this will be a better year for me. |

Like you, I love, love, love the anticipation of Christmas. I love the tree, the ornaments, the music, the holiday movies we watch every year, the cocoa. But also like you, I start to feel a bit of a letdown once it is over.
I had a really bad 2012. It was bad financially, physically and emotionally. I am hoping to leave 2012 behind and never look back. I am a pessimist by nature, so part of me keeps saying, "Come Jan. 1, 2013, it'll be the same thing in a new calendar." But another part of me, the small part that I hope to nurture and grow, says, "It is time to practice positive changes now so they will become good habits in 2013." (eating better, moving more, regularly reminding myself that I am a good person and I deserve to have good things happen in my life.) |
