I am unable to work in the profession that for which I trained and for which I accumulated a lot of student loans.
I also can't do physical work that involves standing or sitting for extended periods due to back problems and congenital birth defects. Anyone else in this position? How are you managing, self-esteem and otherwise. Meta ![]() ![]()

I have done daycare, crocheting, knitting and selling it at local shops that do cosignment selling, sold a couple pieces of artwork, Volunteer work like cooking for community events, Library volunteer work ( local librarys need people who are willing to sit in a room cleaning and repairing books, logging in books on computer card catalogues and so on.) hang in there. Call around your community and you will find many opportunities that don't require you to be on you feet or sitting for hours at a time.

So sorry your going through this. I know there are many opportunities for people with disabilities at home. Please do some research and see what you can find, that way you don't feel as though your doing nothing and low.

I can't work in the field I've been in for a long time, either. Sorry you have student loans that paid for something that does you no good now. I didn't have any. I couldn't do much of anything for quite awhile due to numerous problems. Things have picked up for me a bit and am taking a stab at working--not sure how long it will last. *shrug*
I didn't do anything when I was out of work--couldn't drive, walk, use my hands or arms for about a year. I fell into severe full-time depression (which I've had since adolescene...but this was worse). I hope you find something for yourself. ![]() --BP |

Beautiful Pain,
I've been able to teach a college course online this summer. In the Fall I will be going back in the classroom, which I enjoy more. EJ |

You might try writing to the student loan agencies and asking how to get a medical deferment. That is open to people who can no longer work who qualify for disabled services. they will send you a form and you take it to your treatment professionals. The treatment professionals sign the affidavit saying you are unable to work indefinately and or permanently and the severity of your disability. then you send in the form and either they send you a notice that your student loan has been deferred/written off as unpayable due to your being mentally and or physically handicapped. or they will send you a notice that they want more information and what professionals you need to see.. Once the loan is deferred/wrote off it will stay on your credit record for 7 years during which you will basically be unable to obtain any kind of credit. But I can tell you from going this route with my student loans it is worth the shot. once the 7 years have past you can start to rebuild your credit history easily by applying for a department store credit card and placing something on the card even though you have the money for it and then paying it right off.
