I've had major depressive disorder for at least 12 years now and due to financial/insurance problems will soon be ending mental health services and no longer seeing a therapist--I'll just be going to a regular physician for meds. For as long as I can remember, I've felt empty and alone. I only have one friend and have difficulty making new friends. I feel like no one will ever truly understand me which causes me to feel so empty inside. I just wonder if I'll ever get rid of this emptiness or if I'm just hardwired to be this way--and if I am hardwired that way how can I live a life free of misery?

You have another friend here if you like. I wonder too if I'm hardwired this way since I've never experienced what I feel is happiness. I hope you get some more responses here because the way I feel I'm not much help sorry. But you are not alone. Keep posting at least you can try to get some things off your mind.

I try to tell myself that brains can grow and change. I may be wired one way, but with work I hope to re-wire it.
There is hope. This can get better. I hope you can get back into therapy once your financial situation turns around. Can your T give you tips on how to cope with the end of therapy? Please keep visiting and posting! So glad you're here. You're not alone in facing these problems. |

![]() That's hard when you can't see a therapist due to financial reasons. Are there any support groups you can go to? Those are generally free. Hang in there, and keep posting! |

You know, it's kind of funny. I used to feel hopeless and empty too. I felt like that for years. I've been severely depressed since I was a little girl. I have clinical depression, and i've been on meds for as long as i can remember. I'm 63 yrs old now.
![]() Like I said, I used to feel like that too. I don't remember ever feeling TRULY "happy." Maybe in short spurts, but not for extended lengths of time. Somewhere along the line, my brain must have 'rewired' itself and made me "content" because I've been content for a long time. I guess content isn't HAPPY ![]() ![]() ![]() So I DO think the brain DOES rewire itself so that you are NOT in misery. The brain doesn't like pain -- so it takes care of itself. Yours will too. ![]() ![]() ![]()
