Hello All. It was just a general question really. Ive been thinking about all the meds that Im on and I was just wondering is the meds worse than the ilness. Everytime I see my doc he ups the meds. I really dont know would I be better of without all this medicine. I said that to my doc and he said that I need these for the time being. Any thoughts.

What's happening that's making you feel like they're worse? Are you having side effects that are unpleasant? Or just the whole idea of taking medication that you don't feel right about?

Each time a doctor prescribes a medication, I hope he/she keeps this issue in mind. My psychiatrists have generally been good about considering the side effects versus the symptoms of the illness. I have bipolar disorder, and I know how terrible depression and mania can be. Some drugs I have insisted that I get off of, but now I seem to be managing okay with only a few.

He's probably right "for the time being". Get pro-active about your situation. Find
out the side effects of the meds you're taking and investigate taking pharmaceutical quality vitamins to boost your immune system while the meds happily utilize everything they need from your nutrition to be metabolized! Remember that vitamins can't be of any help unless they're taken with foods and they can't help unless we have adquate minerals to metabolize them. Probably, you might wish to take a good quality trace mineral supplement, at least. Ask your pharmacist about which ones might be good to take. |

Medications do not always work and certainly can sometimes cause a lot more issues than they are worth. I have yet to have a 'good' experiance with an anti-depressant not really willing to try anymore though. Then I also tried klonopin for anxiety and that was a disaster that landed me in the psych ward.
lol I might have stopped the klonopin before things got that bad if someone would have told me 'hey you've been acting really weird since you started taking that.' but none of them wanted me to get mad is the consensus from my understanding. My friend may have tried to tell me but by that point there was no reasoning with me. That said I don't think I have the most common reactions to psych meds so its very likely none of that would happen to you or even most people...but there is that risk. Remember meds are drugs and all drugs I don't care what it is have potential negative side effects. Anyways if you are taking meds and you feel they are making you worse or not working I'd talk to the doctor....and maybe seek a new one if the response is to just keep suffering negative effects in case it might 'work' eventually. I mean I am sure if I had stayed on wellbutrin when I was prescribed it until the recommended 3 and a half weeks were up I would have been in the psych ward for some weird wellbutrin induced state of psychosis...luckily the psychiatrist promptly told me to quit taking it not just wait through the terrible side effects. |
