I am having an extremely rough day today. I feel like crying my eyes out, and I am considering staying home from work tonight. First, I got in trouble at one of my jobs this morning for doing the same thing I always do, but the rules apparently changed overnight. The woman almost had me in tears. Second, my depression is taking me away from focusing on school, and I am normally an A student, but this semester, I am a C student. I also think I just failed a test this morning, so I am headed toward F student. I am a senior in college, and I don't want to give up. Third, I am very upset and asked a friend to go to lunch, and got rejected. My friend is sitting at home on the computer for three more hours, and I always help the person. When I need help, nobody wants to help me. I guess I will just sit alone like usual.

Sorry you're having a rough day! *hugs*

Have you asked your professor about your test? Sometimes professors can be very understanding and will work with you to retake something or do extra work to boost your grade. (Not all though, so be prepared for him/her to say no if you ask).

(((Hugs)))

Agree with the post above - talk to your professors, get a medical note if you can as well.

I feel like my professor will not understand, because he appears to believe that everyone knows everything. He said that everything on the test was on the review sheet (which I did and studied, but I feel like I'm constantly having things go right out of my head because I can't focus on anything.)

I am so sorry that you are feeling like this. Do you think you could go to see a doctor there and get some medication that will help you focus so you won´t need to drift towards being an F student? I know my depression is also making it very difficult for me to focus and makes everything much more difficult to cope with. There is help to be had, but you must look for it. It is good that you post here because it is good to vent and not bottle things up. Keep posting here!

This doesn't mean he won't understand.

Go to school medical. I think most of them have a mental heath department. They probably will have good advice.

Do not give up. You have made it this far. Do find help---you are doing so much, school, work, trying to maintain very high standards. It is often the case the person we ask to lunch/whatever who turns us down has no idea how important that small positive contact can be at times---or how much it hurts, and it hurts even more to think they don't know. If your school has counseling try that---and if you have an academic adviser talk to that person, you may need to slow down a bit, or just have a place to go and talk. We are here for you. You have done well and you will do well. Did something specific happen to trigger this depression?

I'm a student, too (but an older one). In my university, when we are under stress like you're describing, we can go to the counseling center at any time and let people know we're in trouble. We can also speak to *any* professor or instructor, residence advisor or any other staff member, and they have a protocol to follow to get us into supportive services. Indeed, even as a student worker who supervises other students, I have a "chain of command" to follow if I observe a student in my "care" having problems. We are very devoted to making sure every student gets the best possible chances to succeed.

If a student doesn't get results enough to feel safe, they can walk right into the deans' or provost's offices and yell for help. Every single dean and the provost work with open doors all day, every day except when in private meetings for this very reason.

Don't suffer alone. Talk to people. Keep talking to them until you get the help you need. Okay, so you aren't going to walk away with A's this semester. One semester of C's will not ruin your life. But the other stuff can really set you back. So please, keep reaching out.
