Don't get me wrong, I love our dog, but it is getting too hard for me to take care of her.
Here's the story: She is part beagle and part basset hound--and very stubborn and physically "solid." I got her a little over two years ago as a Christmas present for my daughter (who is now 17). The dog was 2--we are her third owners. We haven't been able to have a fence put up, so we've been keeping her as an inside dog--which she was already used to anyway. Well, lately I am the one who has been taking her out and walking her. Sometimes my son helps me but he can't do it all the time. The thing is, she is heavy and stubborn, and I have a real bad back and the doctor has had to get after me because I have actually thrown my back out several times from walking her. My daughter knows this, but she refuses to take her out; I am tired of this, and feel like the dog should go to someone who is really going to be able to take care of her. ![]()

i am sorry to learn you have to give your dog away. But if you cannot care for her, then it is best she go to a family or person who can care for her properly. Do what you need to do to take care of the dog so you do not risk seriously injuring yourself. Do not discuss it with your daughter. My best to the two of you...doggie and you.

I know how you feel, it's hard. I've been feeling the same way about my cat. I'm not supposed to be lifting more than 10lbs because I had back surgery and I live on 2nd floor. Litter is heavy! Canned food! I love my guy but feel like I can't do this. But my situation will get better, its been 5 months 1 more month and I think they will let me lift more.
If walking him is taking your back out, you need to take care of you. I agree w/ Bee2. If your daughter won't take care of him and you can't, find him a home. Maybe there is someone near you that could take him and you could still see him, if not at least you will know he is getting taken care of.
