I only see my therapist once a month which is makes me kinda sad in and of itself. We don't really seem to connect though. We still haven't figured out the reasons behind my depression. I don't actually expect us to at only one session a month though. I just find it difficult. She's also the only therapist I can reach cause I can't drive.

I am sorry to hear of the little progress you and your T have made. I would make it a point to explain to her that you feel like nothing is working and maybe trying a new approach. Remember, you must ultimately want help, and seek to find it in order to get better.

Therapy once a month is not very helpful, and puts the added stress on you to work through your problems and learn to cope. But there's the problem isn't it, most who are in therapy don't know how to work out their problems and can't cope. I would advise you to try and see this T at least every other week, if not every week.

If you can not drive, then maybe have a friend or family member take you? If that is not an option, then a phone session with this T if he or she allows. If not, then maybe you need to find a T who would be more willing to fill your needs whether that be with at home visits or phone sessions, but I would advise face to face.

Hope you work things out with your T and hope you make better progress.

She only comes to this clinic once a month which is why it's that way. I've been looking for another one but it's hard. It is hard to cope and the therapy's too far away to help. Maybe she's trying to teach me to cope by not helping much. Like forcing me to learn to help myself.

This clinic you go to, is it the only place near you that offers help? Do you not have easy access to other care facilities?

It sounds like she isn't a primary T, maybe just a fill in? If she can not be available to you, you really need to find another T. It sounds like you are dealing with issues that need constant attention, like battling depression and loneliness. And no, I don't think she is excepting you to learn how to be anything on your own. It sounds to me like she just can't be available to you as much as you or even her would like.

Could you have someone in your family take you to appointments outside of your area? Maybe you could see someone in the evening which would be easier to arrange transportation for? Or could you see your current therapist once a month somewhere else in addition?

When you say you can't drive, do you not have your license, or access to a car?

I mean I don't have a license. I asked family but they said they couldn't help me out there. My fiance would help but she works the scheduled time I meet the therapist.

Ever thought of getting it? It might give you some freedom to do things you want to do. You've mentioned several times you can't go anywhere.

I am trying to get it right now. It's just I have this embarrassing problem of anxiety when driving. I get so afraid I'll crash or die. I tense up, breath deeply, or cry. I get really afraid but it's so silly.

Is there a bus route or any form of publish transportation? Or maybe something available by riding a bike to? Some therapist offer Skype sessions. IT is difficult to only see your therapist once a month. A lot happens in a month and it can take a half hour just to update them on what is going on. With weekly or biweekly you get more time to talk about things and less about just giving updates and band-aid session.

I hope you can find something that works for you. Depression is hard to deal with by yourself. I'm here if you want someone to talk to. I'm not a therapist, but having someone to talk to may make things less overwhelming. I hope things work out for you.

Armygirl,
Sounds like your in a tough spot. I understand not wanting to drive anywhere especially if it's only going to stress you out. While it may not be as good as in house therapy, have you looked online to see if there is some kind of online therapy you could possibly enroll in. Also, if you have health insurance sometimes they may offer some kind of EAP assistance. Usually they have a line you can call that may have a therapist employed. Just a few ideas. Good luck! I hope you feel better soon!

Does your T remember your issues from session to session....my T started having trouble with that when we went from 1x per week to 1x per month.

Well I guess it's better than nothing but its a shame you can't do more frequently. It's almost like talking to a best friend about all your problems except that they call you out on things a lot more. Best of luck!

That's horrible, ArmyGirl. I'm so sorry.

Do you think maybe you can tell her how bad you are feeling, and if she can make any recommendations for another T in the area?

She just wasn't coming to this clinic anymore. Couldn't afford the trip. I'm pretty down right now. Just wishing I could sleep and never wake up.
