So, I haven't told anyone that I've been feeling depressed, and i really want to get help soon. I've been thinking of writing some sort of letter or note for my parents telling them about my "situation." What should I include in the letter? How should I talk to my mom once she gets the letter? I really need advice.

I just recently decided I needed to tell someone about what was going on in my life as well. For a while, I considered putting it in a letter but I was scared someone else would find it. I ended up skirting around my parents the whole day, waiting for the courage to speak. In the end, I just had to outright say it. If it helps, you can rehearse the conversation in your head or practice saying it aloud in a mirror.
If you still want to do it in a letter, I would recommend you give a brief description of what depression feels like (for instance, 'I don't want to get up in the morning; I hate doing things I used to love; I fantasize about self-harm; and I feel like someone shoved an anvil on my chest.' That probably doesn't apply to you, but it's an example). Make sure you specify that you're pretty sure it's depression and not just 'the blues.' Explain why you feel this is a serious problem and mention possible treatment options (therapist, medication, school guidance counselor, etc.).
If you have already written this letter and my reply is too late, sorry, but maybe it'll help anyway. I hope things get better for you and you get the treatment you need.

Samantha gives you wise advice to include in your letter. including facts along with your feelings to let them know why you feel you are depressed. then be prepared to let them know what you want to do about it, such as seeing a counselor or therapist. another way you could approach this is to talk to a school counselor and let him/her help you talk to your parents about needing help for your depression. they are trained in that sort of thing. good luck.

Thanks Samanthagreene and kaliope! It's not too late Samantha, I'm still writing the letter. To both of you, thanks for making me feel better about my decision to tell my parents about how I feel.
