Hello everyone, for the last year I had the most terrible of depression. Scuicidal, cutting myself and planning to end it all, after 5 different anti depressants I finally found one that has helped. It is effexor, I know everyone is different but it has helped me so much. In saying that I found the last few weeks difficult like the depression is slowly creeping up on me. I can't go back to that place of hopelessness and dark despair. I can't sleep without a sleeping pill, the effexor has not helped with my sleep. In fact, I think it has made it worse. What can I do to, to help myself. Am I going backwards, downwards... Thanks for reading.

can you talk to your pdoc? also, what time to you take it? effexor can have a stimulating effect, so if you take it at night, see if your doc will change it to an am dose...
sometimes meds need tweaking once your body gets used to them ((hugs))
Thanks for this!

Everyone is different. You may either be on the wrong anti-depressant, or need one of the combination antibiotics. Are you seeing a therapist? The medications nowadays are good, but they can't completely take the place of figuring why you are so unhappy and finding a strategy to deal with the cause.

Also, tolerance can build to certain drugs, though its unlikely with that time frame. I agree with MdngRain. Definately talk to your Dr. ASAP. Usually if you are changing from one anti-depressant to another, they will give your body a little time to completely get rid of the first anti-depressant. If you are feeling suicidal, the sooner you get in touch with your Dr., the better.

Hi Pierro,

I haven't had experience with this so can't offer you in that regard (I've never experienced a relief from the depression yet!) but I'm so glad you posted to us what's going on for you.

You can't go back, I don't want that for you! Of course we'll support you either way, I just don't want you to have more depression.

My only thought is to urge you to get on top of it as soon as possible in any way you can. Make an appointment with any doctors right away before it goes further? See what they suggest.

Has there been any particular event or stressor that seemed to set things in motion?
Do you still have some good energy? From your writing I don't think you're completely back where you were before. So can you capitalize on some of that positive energy you do have left to care for yourself and care for yourself extra during this time?

I'm there for you - let me know if there's any way I can help

Gracez

Pierro, I had the same problem back in January, so my pdoc doubled my med and it made a world of difference. I have notice that I too seem to be way more depressed as of late, and I think everyone is right when they say that you may just need to have your meds adjusted. I think our bodies have just gotten used to our current doses.

Good luck to you.

NOOOOOOOOOOO.
I have always had insomnia. Plus the depression and anxiety as you know. My doc put me on agomelatine 25 mg. and it helped with Both. Ask your doc about it.
You've made so much progress.
Let us know how you do

Hi,
I found the same drug was much more effective in combination with another. This might be something your pdoc can try. Talk to them about whether you need to try something different, each person has different reactions.
Thanks for this!
