I was wondering if there are any ways to get over self hatred? Every time I start to do good at something I start thinking about how much I hate myself and wish I was dead, then I feel like it doesn't matter if I accomplish something or not because I'm still going to feel the same way. Are there ways to change the way you think about yourself?

For me, it waxes and wanes. In good days I don't hate myself as much, But on bad days... well, they're bad. I think going to therapy helps allow me to feel better about myself. Looking at some of the stuff that has been at the root of me hating myself has allowed me to see its mainly because of past circumstance, but again, that's only on good days. (Hugs)

Thanks MdngtRain, sometimes I can feel good about myself but when I don't it really affects my life, I don't do as well as I could because the negative feelings hold me back, Maybe I can talk to my therapist about it today

The same is true of my experience of self-hatred. It's "deep programming" unrelated to common life achievements and failures.

I've found a way that does not work for me: ritualized self-affirmations. It is more helpful for me to think about myself as little as possible. All forms of self-focus get me going the wrong way.
