I have this really close friend, and she called me up yesterday...i didnt answer my phone, i havent for a while. But when i listened to my voice mail, she was saying she really needs someone to talk to, so i called her back. She said that she thought she was starting to get depressed. She told me all about the way she was feeling and how she just isnt happy anymore. I felt really bad for her...she is always in a good mood. So i asked her if she talked to her mom about it...she said that her mom just blew her off and said she was over exagerating. That made me feel even worse, because i know her mom and she always seemed like such a nice person. So she asked me how i cope with it and what i do to feel better. But i didnt know what to tell her, because i just havent been coping with it or even trying to feel better. So then she felt bad because she doesnt know what to do. And now im feeling really down because i know that someone really close to me is hurting like i am, and im not doing anything about it...im not even trying to help...but i dont know how to help her. Im just really down now.
Does anyone have any suggestions i could tell my friend?
thanx,
-Megan-

Trying to help someone else (even if they're feeling the same way as ourself) is really hard when we're not feeling that good and are struggling with our own problems. It is hard to help anyone else if you're not able to help yourself. You did try to help - you listened to her. Can you tell her to try and speak to someone? If her mother won't listen, what about a counsellor, or a doctor? It can also help if you talk about how you're feeling - sometimes just knowing someone else knows how you feel is a good enough beginning. It can also help you to just talk.

Hope this helps and I hope everything works out. Take care of yourself.

the best thing you can do is just tell her you are there for her and ready to talk with her whenever she needs you...support of a good friend is what she needs now...Hope you are doing okay...and don't forget to take care of yourself too...!!! ((((hugs)))) My friend
