I stopped eating, don't care about school, I hate where I live and I feel suicidal. Can antidepressants save me? How long does it take for them to take affect?

It's possible they can help. The time it takes varies. Ive had some that seem to work pretty fast. Consult with your doctor what would help you the fastest. And if you are still suicidal go to the ER.

I'm in ICU now for a bad mistake. I'm hoping I can get the help I need without going into the psych ward.

MedicalFox--I am not a dr.,but I think the answer is "yes",antidepressants can help U. The ?? is given how badly U R feeling combined w/ your specific symptoms, will U be alive long enough to find out?

I would STRONGLY URGE U to go to an emergency room w/ a psych dept. & get
some IMMEDIATE HELP 4 yourself so that U at least give yourself an opportunity
to feel better,& function better.

I truly hope U think seriously about my thoughts. I have suffered from Major Depression & Anxiety for @ least 25 yrs. I have been suicidal, attempted in the
past,& spent more than a few days on the psych unit. I didn't necessarily want
to be there, but it was definitely where I needed to be.

I know the psych unit is not where U want to be,but it may be a good place 4 U
2 B 4 a few days so that your psych doc can get your meds tweaked, try to set up a support system to prevent a repeat trip to the I.C.U.,& decide if U would benefit from a formal outpatient therapy group like a Partial Hospitalization Program(all day therapy, but go home at night) or an Intensive Outpatient Therapy(half- day therapy and then go home). I never wanted to B on the psych
unit either, but most of the time,it was where I needed to be. Hang in there. You
can beat this.
