This is a little different style of post.
Why do you do what you do? Is it something you want, or someone else?

Basically give a situation and say for YOU if it is internal or external.

(for more details of this experiment see my blog, I'll be doing the same thing.

And how do we know? Aren't many needs we feel like ours actually planted in our heads by the culture, parents, advertisement, school, peers, etc? :-)
Thanks for this!

I would say a fairly big number of things I do it because I feel its expected of me. I am always unsure about breaking out so, even when I think I am going to do something for my own reasons I then start thinking in terms of "what will the boss say? What will my mom say? What will my friends think?".

I think when I am in a depressed state a lot of the things I do are just to "keep up appearances'". I am very bad about hiding from the world and trying to shut things out.

Clara, you raise a good point.

The one thing that I would love to find out, is if there is a link between external and depression, and then internal and happy. But how much of what we do based on the past, now that may be harder too tell, and harder to research.

If anyone else has some situations, that would be very helpful.
