I whent to one of my managers yesterday, she i someone who i love and trust as she is my ex's sister and has helped me with my problems recently.I asked her to ask the boss for me if i could change duties to something less stressfull.so she did.well anyway i whaent into work today and my boss called me in to the office,of course i knew what it was about. He asked me to tell him about my problem because my manager lorraine wouldnt give any details she just said ai was having problems,so i thought it was only fair him being my boss he does have a right to know,so i told him. Then hours later my supervisor on the night shift comes to me and says in front of colleagues that im on night shift because ive got mental health problems,i felt so ashamed i just laughed it off and he said he told the boss i was just trying it on to get an easy life wich of course im not.I feel like a breach of confidentiality has taken place and i dont know what i can do i feel so betrayed.

(((((wanting)))))))

I've only had one job (that I kept for all of three weeks) but I'd suggest talking to the boss or the manager about what this supervisor said. As far as I can tell, if its not a breach of any confidentiality it is at least ignorant and rude of your supervisor to say anything like that.

*hugs* I hope things work out better for you with your new duties and you get things straightened out.

I don't know about betrayal; your supervisors should get an explanation from their boss as to why things are changing in the business that relates to their jurisdiction but your night supervisor certainly was unprofessional about it and I would go to his boss and complain about what he did/said! I wouldn't have laughed it off, I would have said something like, "Yes, but my mental health problems don't get in my way enough to stop me from suing you for harrassment/creating a hostile work environment and unprofessional behavior!"

I would feel hurt as well, and in terms of a breach of confidentiality, I don't believe there are any legal bindings which prevent people in the workplace to share information, though it does feel un-ethical. You could potentially have a case in terms of harassment or unfair treatment due to mental health "prejudice", depending on the degree of behavior. I'm not a lawyer, but it might be beneficial to consult with one.

People often think that prejudice is a black/white, gay/straight issue, but it effects those with disorders. I've been lucky enough not to be too effected by this attitude, but people can be so ignorant and succumb to stereotypes, as you have experienced. I am really sorry that this happened, and I wish you the best.
