Christmas is supposed to be a happy time of year. But I can't get out of bed. I haven't put out any decorations and all I can think about are the people that are no longer with us to enjoy this time of year. I haven't bought my kids any gifts yet either. I hate how it gets dark so early. I just sleep all day and I miss the Christmas spirit I used to have when my kids were little and the grandparents were alive. I'm just so sad and I don't know what to do.

I say see a psychiatrist. You could have seasonal affective disorder. Medication does help.

talk to your spouse or a friend about it.
see a therapist/psychologist if need be. Make seeing a psychiatrist a last resort, because they will put you on meds and you may not need them.

It is common for people to remember loved ones, far and near, during the holiday season. Maybe you could remember the dead in a conscious, deliberate way (mourning or grieving ritual). Then you might feel free to enjoy the living.

Thank you all for your answers. I think I will Do what @nonomous said and do something special for the ones that are gone. Then come back to the living. Maybe a collage of all their pictures in a Christmas frame. I'm not going to separate families from friends I'm just going to put all my loved ones together. I may feel completed. Thank you all.
