Hello all...
So uh... I've been battling with my depression for two years now. Being 16, most people won't believe you if you say "I think I need help" because its your teenage years, who cares, right? Never have I been a typical child. I would choose the weirdest outfits as a five year old and be goofy and bubbly.. But all of that has faded. I like the black and white with hints of grey. Everything isn't right.. My parents, they don't like my behavior sometimes and say "You're just going through a phase.", even though these "phase" last months on end. I just feel like no one cares about me anymore, and that no one wants me. To put on top of the family situation, I was dating a guy for a year who was very intelligent, a diligent worker, my kind of guy, and now he doesn't want a thing to do with me. This has only made things worse in my life. I used to sleep very soundly, but now I cry to myself until I pass out every night, only getting 1-4 hours of sleep. I wish I could tell my friends what is going on, but they don't understand. If anyone thinks they could help me out, please reply? Because right now I have no one to turn to ![]() ![]() |

I'm sorry to hear you are going through that and the people around you haven't been supportive.
Are you still at school? Is there any chance you can speak with your school counsellor? They might be able to give you some advice and even help you talk to your parents about what you have been going through. You shouldn't have to be doing this alone ![]() Also, if you ever want to talk please feel free to contact me any time. I'm always happy to listen. Sometimes just being able to vent and talk to someone neutral can help. |

Is there something that specifically caused you to feel depressed in the first place?
Speaking what you've kept bottled up for a long time can be very relieving. Seeing a school counselor like mazing suggested would also be a good idea. |

I was going to a public school for years and then I changed to a charter school that is in the process of becoming a public school. There really isn't a "counselor" there, just some teachers.
What cause my depression in the first place is something that is a mystery to me. It's not like it just happened one day and I'm living with it, it's just gradual stress and anxiety I've built up. I've looked for nearby therapists and I've found a couple. I just don't know if I could find time to go to one. |

![]() I agree with all the school counselor suggestions. If you are able to be honest with him or her about your feelings, they can also help speak to your parents about treatment. Don't be afraid...i was terrified to go to my school counselor (back in the dark ages) but she put me on the road to proper treatment and a better life.

I am sure everyone wishes to be a great parent. Unfortunately - some people simply fail at this critical job. Pretty clear where your parents fall in this category.
*HUGS to you. Hope today goes better for you. |

Me too have experienced similar issue before at the aged of 20.
Although I have plenty of friends.. But one day when I was down and depressed.. Suddenly I realize.. I have no friends whom I can talk to (despite of having plenty of friends contact # in my phone list..) I could not sleep well at night.. Similarly, My parents didn't bother to pay any attention to me (bcos my parent feels that I am just being paranoid).. Not Until I broke down and went to see a psychologist/psychiatrist.. You may need to understand that not all parents are able to express how they feel towards their children.. Some may use the form of gesture (hugging and kissing) while some may use the form of nagging to show their love for their Children .. Perhaps who knows they are still learning to be parent, themself. Forgive them and try to communicate with them again (it might take some time, but worth trying).. If not u can try talking to some counsellor in school or people in this forum.. It is good to talk to people who is/are willing to listen and show concern towards ur situation.. ![]() I hope these suggestions helps.. Stay positive and Keep going!! 😉 |
