![]() I think i am starting to win my battle against depression. Today has marked a major milestone for me. All my life (i am now 34) i have been a huge reader. I have always had a book on the go, and have never gone a day without reading. It has been my life, and saved my life many a time by keeping me sane and helping me to escape. Anyway, about 18 months ago i realised i wasnt reading. Not only was i not reading, but i hadnt been reading for a while. In 18 months i have tried (and failed) to pick up a book and just read, but i have been unable to focus or concentrate on a book. I know this happens to be because of my depression. Today i read again ![]() Sorry, i know this sounds silly to some people, but i hope someone understands why this is such a big deal to me?

Sure do. I've always read a lot each day. Then i noticed how i stopped doing it, i don't find pleasure in it amymore. I still don't read as much as i used to and i find it difficult to pick up a book. So i guess i can say i understand and way to go for you. Keep it in that direction!

Hey, I could have written every word you said! I, too, used to be an avid reader and then lost the ability to focus and concentrate to the point of not being able to read. But just last week I picked up a book and actually was able to read it!!! I know exactly what you mean and isn't it wonderful to be able to get back to doing something you once loved to do? I'm pretty happy about it myself. Lauren

I understand completely. When I was at my low, I lost my ability to focus and read. I have also been an avid reader so it felt spooky not to be able to read (or sleep, for that matter ...) I am so glad for you that are doing something you enjoy ... that is a real milestone. Thanks for sharing with us.

Yep, I love to read and usually even if I am swamped I get through at least a book a week. Now for the past month I have been half way through a book that I love and just can't through it. Maybe today I will try to finish it

I used to be an avid reader but for some reason got away from it. I started a book about a month ago and would read a little before going to bed each night. Now, in this depression, I'm not drawn to reading anymore (for right now, I presume)

That's amazing! Reading is a great coping mechanism, I too love to read. What do you like to read most?
