I give you a virtual hug my friend. I'm suffering from major depression, and none of my so called friends give a damn about it, except adults in the church i go to, my therapist, and my professors. I'd rather have a virtual friend here who knows how bad depression can do to your life. Stand up and go take a shower.

I think that if it lasts more than a couple days, then it is more than laziness.

Have you another symptoms of depression? How another symptoms you find relevant.
I spent my life living like this. Of course I tried.to change it everytime and I couldnt. I still did the things, but most of the time I needed other people ideas and motivation.

i have never been on medication for depression. im going to see a psychiatrist on thurs and theyll prob put me on something because ive never been through anything traumatic in my life. i honestly think it may just be somethings wrong in my body like my serotonin levels or whatever is messed up.

Hi rob, you're right, it isn't normal and it sounds like you've been going through a really hard time and three years is a long time to have been coping with this. Just make sure you're prepared for Thursday and tell your psychiatrist everything that's going on for you (don't hold back!).
For now just try to push yourself as far as you can, even if that just involves getting up in the morning. But if you CAN'T, then you CAN'T and try not to feel too bad about it/about something you CAN'T do. It's not that you aren't trying, it's not that you don't want to try, depression (like you're struggling with) can be SO consuming/overwhelming. So even doing the smallest things you should give yourself REAL credit for,
But you are going exactly the right route in getting help with it, in working to overcome this.
And remember, we're here for you whenever you want to talk or some support!

it feels good to know other people go through this too. thank you all so much. the most upsetting thing about this is explaining to people that dont understand like my family and friends that say "just TRY and do this and TRY and do that" when even the smallest task is like fighting an elephant

those feelings are just terrible to deal with on the day to day basis and suck the enjoyment out of everything. It's especially difficult when friends and family don't get it. I get frustrated just thinking about it! I'm glad you're going to visit a therapist soon though! Good luck and let us know how it goes!

So much wisdom in this thread already I won't be repetitive but wish you luck at the psychiatrist where you will probably get some meds that can help turn your life around.

It's nothing to be embarrassed about. I procrastinate about showering all of the time. I only shower once or twice a week. And even then it's like a huge weight on my back. Plus I sometimes fall in the shower, so I generally have a hatred of showering. I cannot add anything since you've already been given some great advice. So, instead I'll give you a great big hug. -Hugs-

Best of luck with your appointment! I really hope things get better for you. I myself only shower about twice a week--only when I'm so disgusted I can't stand myself. I lay on the couch most of the day and only recently have been able to get up and do some much needed cleaning. It's REALLY hard when you're depressed.
