I can't say that I've ever taken cymbalta, but it seems that most of the anti-depressants cause weight gain which in turn makes the person feel worse. The extra weight doesn't help with the chronic pain much. Many people stop taking their meds because of that.

Being in my fourth decade of depression, I think that although the depression doesn't always go away, it changes some depending on what age you are at. Some day they will find a gene or a synapse that controls depression. Probably not in our time though.

Is anything being done about your pain and insomnia?

Hello gypsy67...I was on Cymbalta for about 11 months and gained about 35 pounds. I did not have insomnia then. I quit it cold turkey and had some rather rough times with it for about 4 weeks. It did help with the depression. I do hope that things get better for you.

I have been taking Cymbalta for about 10 months and have only gained 4-5 pounds (that was over December-January, the worst time of year for me). I am feeling a lot better in that I no longer cry all the time and spend way less time ruminating. Sounds like it might be time to talk to your pdoc or gp about changing meds 'cos it's not working for you. Don't give up...the right med can really help your mood.
