One of the worst things about depression is that even when you know someone really understands what's going on, or at least really means well, anything they say passes through the depression filter and just sounds useless. :'(

Really HATE it and it makes me feel even worse ................................... when even my therapist keeps telling me how much better I'll feel if I'd only just keep going out!! If I didn't feel so damn awful and depressed I WOULD go out!! OK I go out ...................... yet all I see is happy people ................................ so I go home and jump back into bed feeling a million times worse!!

There's nothing I need to go out for, the absolute aimlessness also makes me feel AWFUL. Going out is NOT a cure for depression!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

"It'll pass" or "it'll get better" or anything else referring to nonexistent hope.

Or, from a therapist/social worker/whatever, "what would help you right now?" when I clearly don't know the answer.

Oh yeah, my favourite. "It's your depression." Yah, duh. That helps.

Or "You're looking better" or "I can see you're improving" or "I can see you're getting better" when you're not and just pretending really hard.

Comments (and silent rebuttals):

"Don't worry, it may never happen" (what do you think I'm depressed about!?)
"Life isn't fair, you know!" (yes, we all noticed that by now, thanks so much.)
"What is there to be upset about?" (I'd give you a list - however, I lack the energy.)
"It could be worse" (yes I know, but somehow that thought is not very inspiring at the moment)
"Blah blah blah ..." (I am aware you are attempting to help, but you are not a therapist. Fortunately.)

Thanks for this!

If you really wanted to be happy, you would be.
You have been happy before so I know it is possible.
You need to try….
