For the past few months, I think I’ve been suffering from depression. I’ve been going to the library for lunch times because I feel strikingly alone with my friends. I haven’t told my dad and I don’t have a relationship with my mother. I have told 1 of my friends. I’ve been chatting online with online counsellors and they all say I need to see a therapist of sorts, but I’m 14 so I need my parents permission. I really don’t know what to do, I feel like I can’t talk to anyone but that I don’t see an end in sight.

It's good that you have talked with some people about this, and are looking for support/help with how you are feeling.
![]() You should talk with your dad about how you feel, and how you are looking for/needing help in dealing with this depression. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Good job asking for help here!
![]() How is your relationship with your dad? Maybe you could tell him about these thoughts. Or: has school started yet? How about a counselor at school, now or when school starts? If you ever feel like you need help immediately, please call the National Suicide Lifeline right away, at any time: 1-800-273-TALK. ![]() |

You are asking for support and that is the best thing - I am so proud of you at such a young age for asking for help. Please keep asking and try to get onto some counselling. ![]()

Gah I now see that you are in Australia. I am so sorry not to have noticed this earlier.
Here is a resource in Australia, including phone numbers and chat: https://www.lifeline.org.au/Get-Help Do you have a cell phone? If so, maybe put a hotline number in your phone? And also know that if life is in danger you can call 000. But maybe you already know about such numbers and sites, since you are resourceful and have already been speaking to online counselors! ![]() ![]() |

hello vanishingacts. You've already gotten some excellent suggestions here but the most important thing is that you are seeking help and advocating for your own health. Keep it up. Like others have said, find someone you feel comfortable talking to who can help you talk to your dad about this and get the help you need. If the school counselor is out (and I agree, go with your instincts) maybe a teacher you can talk to? If your ex's mom is someone you can talk to then that is a good choice! Fight the nervousness, you are entitled to get some help with this from whoever you trust. I feel you are already on your way for understanding this and asking for help here. Good luck and keep fighting for it, help is out there.
