My username is my son's first initial of his first and last name with his middle name in the middle...ashton lee j! So I also identify as someone's mom tho its not obvious. ..the 28 is the day he was born also. I like identifying as his mom...it's one of the only things I'm good at.

Anyway I said "hi" and the lovely people there said hi back....usually "hi sophies".

One person said "hi, person who identifies as someone's mom" (it was simply off the cuff and completely harmless)......I haven't been able to stop thinking about it.
It was like some kind of wonderful/terrible revelation to me. It seriously gave me food for thought...

When I joined this forum, I identified myself, completely without thinking, as someone's mom....

The funny thing is, I have four wonderful children, and Sophie is the name of my dog....

So it's a kind of funny/sad/pathetic/ "aha" moment.

I'm thinking of changing it.

And I'm wondering if you all thought about your user names and whether you find them to be revealing...
Hi Sophiesmom,

I think that you should keep your username because it was how you felt comfortable being identified, and now how many of us know you. Even if it was for being the mom of your dog, I saw your username for the first time and thought "oh, a mom-mom or a pet-mom." Nice.

There are points in our lives where we are more highly identified by one thing than another: child, student, spouse, employee. But it doesn't mean we aren't all of these things at the same time some years I've been in the prime mom years and I'm used to responding to ___'s Mom simply because being out in public with every person hollering "mom" "ma" "mother" there are few identifying ways to distinguish us en mass.

I chose my user name because it had a dual meaning: I am mad about books, and I can book my madness (ha ha) via all of my appointments. It was a play on words that entertained me.

So, long reply somewhat shorter, I think that usernames reveal as much as folks want them too, and sometimes more than they were originally intending.

Within this forum, my name means something to just me. Every time I look at it, I'm reminded of a very happy time in my life and I like those memories. But my depression always makes them very short-lived. The "43" is neither my age nor the year I was born.

Within the organization I had a career with, nija has meaning to certain people of my age group (and older) . There are two other "names" I could have used just as easily, but I chose nija because it's pronounceable..... "nee-ja". One of the other names is "nxlb". Kind of a tongue twister without vowels, huh? 43 is the number that was associated with nija.

Mine is a mythical figure out of amazonian lore. I am not sure it says much about me other than that I am a nerd and love the amazon.

I don't find it arrogant either......I saw it as.....you were looking for the original me (you), or reclaiming her.

I didn't give a lot of thought about my username, it was something that came up in the moment.
But I think it is like I'm a warier inside, and it shows my love for adventures. Some left overs of my childhood imaginary world. I have been thinking a lot about changing it, because it doesn't have much sense. But now it's who I am here.

It makes sense. It was a lovely movie with a strong message. I don't personally know you, but your posts reveal that you are a beautiful warrior.

My username was a spur of the moment thing. I was desperate at 3AM, and it occured to me that there must be others like me online somewhere... hopefully, who could relate.

I found this site. I'm TERRIBLE at coming up with creative ideas on the spot, and to be honest... my chest hurt so much from sadness, I just couldn't see past my pain. I figured some one else probably already came up with painful... I figured a variation on spelling would be the easiest solution.

It didn't even occur to me until I hit "submit" that it paynful, also, looked like pay-in-full. At that point... I thought, "Oh well... too late now."

Pierrot as I should have been called but forgot the "t" is a sad clown, and I think that suits me. I do laugh and joke a lot but on the inside I am sad. So I am keeping with Pierrot without the t. Best wishes Sophie!

By the way...

I understand why you might feel that way, but it completely makes sense to me. Being a mother is a wonderful and amazing thing. But it can't be ALL of who you are. There is too much pressure. No matter how great it is to be a mother, I would imagine it would also be overwhelming at times.

Puppies are a responsibility, but nothing like the demands of little human beings. When your dog gets upset, they eat your shoe or poop on your pillow. When your kid gets upset... they pick your retirement home with malice. (At least, that's what I always threatened my Dad with).

I say... if you never had a problem with it before, don't change it out of guilt now. But if you choose to do so, make it for YOU. That's what this site is for... your support.

I love this thread! When I joined I did not take much time to think of a username. Well, I am a seeker, who sometimes feels like I am sinking. I have found I often use the smiley of the bird sitting on the Titanic. Seems sort of appropriate. However, I have no intention of actually sinking. With my daily efforts, T's help, and you all's support I think I will one day succeed.

Pay in full is appropriate, kind of...when you think about it. A demand by Depression...

Three cheers for U.M! I mean ComfortingSoul! We appreciate you! Actually, ComfortingSoul, I do like many of your posts. Your statements are short, concise, to the point. My brain cannot handle long paragraphs, or posts. I think you have been voted in as ComfortingSoul. God bless you. Yeah!

I used a name that wasn't too immediately connected to the core of my most sensitive bits but also something I enjoy, which is my Krome workstation, which reveals my musician-side, which is something which I can share with pretty much everyone safely. It's pretty straight-forward; nothing too heavy. Honestly, I didn't put as much time into this one as I usually would. Probably about 30 seconds or so. I have other usernames but I've used them so much and figured that someone would recognize me here if I used them here, also.

It's not arrogant. You are the original version of yourself so it's technically accurate unless you're one of many clones of someone else (I'll shut up)
