Been thinking more about this... and there was one song that came really to mind and I listened to a lot when I was depressed in my early 20's

Clouds of mystery pouring confusion on the ground.

Lots of songs to choose from here...

The Smiths (seriously, if you're depressed and don't know who The Smiths are, google immediately):
Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now
Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want

Ani DeFranco: Untouchable Face

Nat King Cole: Smile (good for when I really need to cry it out)

Coldplay's "Fix You." The melody and lyrics, especially the chorus ("Tears stream down your face, when you lose something you cannot replace..."). That song evokes a lot of said emotions and experiences.

All Alright by Fun. describes my AvPD so much I almost cried the first time I heard it. AvPD contributes to my depression, so I'd think it calms.

Be Calm.. also, by Fun. captures both my upswings and my anxiety. Especially the latter. Also, contributing factors in my depression.

Mad World whichever version ... when I'm in a depressive episode, the words just.. make so much sense to me.

And Lithium by Nirvana just seems to capture my all around mental state of being.

Soundgarden's Black Days, written by Chris Cornell. Don't know if I can share a link, but these are the lyrics: http://www.metrolyrics.com/fell-on-b...undgarden.html

I have a Linkin Park song, too Papercut. But it's more of an angry song for me

I've been thinking about this one for a while...I think with the depression that I've endured, I could write my own song...but for now, it is from the sadly departed Tim Finn's song Six Months in a Leaky Boat (Split Enz)

I understand you've been running from the man that goes by the name of the sandman.
He rides the sky like an eagle in the eye of a hurricane that's abandoned.
