I just want to disappear but I can't. I have a baby to take care of, a house to take care of. My son will sit on my lap and smile at me like he's just so happy just to be with me, and when he sees me cry like I do all the time he looks at me confused. When my SO is here I act like it's fine, like everything's great, like I've had a great day. When he's at work it's horrible. Nobody knows how I feel because I can't bring myself to tell them. I'm so tired of being alone.

Hello there, sounds like it could be post natal depression. You do not need to suffer like this, please go and see your doctor, you are not alone and many Mum's struggle. There is no shame in getting help. Hugs

Hi fancyladypants, I'm sorry you are struggling right now. I know what it's like to be alone all day and feeling poorly - - and I don't even have children to take care of or really much housework to do (we have a cleaning lady). Have you considered seeing a therapist and perhaps psychiatrist to help you deal with what seems like depression? Glad you posted today. Try to have a good one.

Hi, how old is your son? I have a 2 year old daughter and my depression started a little before she was born. Have you asked for help from your doctor yet?

I would suggest being honest with you SO and see you doctor as soon as you can. They can find you help in most cases. Best wishes to you and your son.

My son is 7 months, almost 8. I'm seeing my OB/GYN on Friday to get formally evaluated for postpartum depression and hopefully get referred to someone who specializes in it. I told my SO about it a few months ago once but I've really downplayed how I feel partially because I don't want to deal with it and partially because I don't want him to worry about me. It's easier to hide my feelings.

Getting an evaluation is good. It took me a long time to get help and I really regret all the things I missed out on. I recommend being as honest as possible with your SO unless this person has gone through pregnancy and childbirth themselves it will be very difficult for them to understand the crazy amount of chemical changes happening within you.
It can be especially daunting if it is tour first child. My husband blames himself for missing my depression, since knowing the signs is part of his job but we were both so overwhelmed with being new parents that we had no idea what was normal and what was not. So please have a frank and honest conversation with your loved one. You need a support network right now. Depression is hard and you should not have to fight it alone. |
