Thursday is coming fast and feeling anxious for my new doctors appointment. The appointment isn't really the problem. My problem is how do I tell my husband that I'm depressed? He was raised not to show emotion so he doesn't. In all the 34 years we've been married I can count on one hand the times I've seen him cry. I know he'll think I'm stupid and there's nothing wrong.....he doesn't even see the severe level of pain that I have in my legs. He thinks that I can just jump up and do whatever he wants me to do. He doesn't know anything about what happened to me when I was young. I was always worried that he wouldn't believe me.....

what do I do if I tell him and he just brushes it off??

There are some people who just doesn't understand or believe in mental illness. Your husband may be one of these, if so it my be hard to convince him that you are ill. However, he may just need it explained to him. You may need to take him to one of your doctor visits and have the doctor help explain it to him. Good luck to you.

Since he is your husband I think you should be honest with him. We have no control over how other people react or think or feel even our spouses. All we can do is be honest and stick up for ourselves. You deserve to be honest about your reality and if he doesn't get it, it is on him. You can hopefully choose how to react to his reaction. If you tell him everything he may be more understanding then you give him credit for. Us men can have very hard exteriors and walls but there is a kinder gentler soul in there.

Thank you for the insight Zinco. I will think on it. I know that he won't go to a therapist with me but hopefully they could help me with ways to tell him.
