Hi everyone, I was just curious as to whether anyone else has found a correlation between depression and panic attacks. Full blown panic attacks do not occur frequently in me, but I have frequent limited symptom attacks. For some odd reason they seem to mostly concentrate in the evening or night. I'm on Rivotril for them, but I only take it as needed, mind you it is a very effective medicine for me. I am just tired of having to continuously fight this battle if you get what I mean.

Well, I have both depression and anxiety. Not certain about how to answer, correlation? For me, they are Co-morbid.

Comorbid for me aswell. I guess when I said correlation, I meant that do you notice that it gets worse when depressed.

Attacks are much more frequent and on a bigger scale when severely depressed versus when only mildly depressed - for me, that is.

The only time I experienced panic attacks was while I was being treated for depression; I think that the panic was brought on by the medication ~ the depression just made it worse.

I suffer panic attacks and depression. I think the panic attacks kind of go with the depression for me. I also notice when the depression is at its worst I get paranoid. I start thinking everybody is out to get me. My logical mind knows this is not true but I don't think with a logical mind when I get depressed.

For me, panic attacks are the CAUSE of my depression (shorthanding and simplifying, of course).
I had learned, unconsciously, to use depression as a coping mechanism, a way of avoiding the triggers for panic. I learned it so well, that even though (as I've just written) the panic attacks are (mostly) gone, I now (unconsciously) use depression as my "preferred" coping mechanism to any stress. |
