My very best friend (I live with her) had a meltdown today. I'm always in a position to get my family and friends through the rough patches in life. They have no clue how deep my depression is because I FAKE IT TIL I MAKE IT!!!
Most days I feel nothing.... numb, not knowing what to do to get out of this funk. I happen to be one of those people that decided of my own free will to start seeing a therapist @ 25, I'm now 46. I have been depressed since a child. I don't know what it is to be happy. My happiness would be my son and sister to be happy, successful, prosperous and functioning like productive citizens as they once did. VERY TALL ORDER.... back to feeling numb because I feel helpless and hopeless (I hate to use that word hopeless) makes me feel like a quitter, failure.

Hello perfectly_me (nice name!), welcome! I too feel helpless and hopeless sometimes... It's okay to feel that way, because it's only your mind warning you. I get upset sometimes when people tell me to "fake it 'till you make it!" because although it may be a fine rule for people for some, it can also mean your feelings aren't important and should be ignored, which isn't true. It sounds like you've made good choices in seeing a therapist. That must have taken a lot of strength. If you're feeling numb, then chances are your feelings are overloaded, as I like to call it. The forums here are a great place to talk about problems you may not otherwise, and the people here are happy to listen.

Thank you.... I really dig your name as well. I had a chance to read some threads before I joined and I found everyone to be positive, kind, caring, informed and intelligent. I added the intelligent in there because in my culture mental illness has the stigma of being unintelligent. I know it is because of their ignorance and not fully understanding the intricacy's of mental illness.
