I woke up and I knew I was already in a pretty deep funk. Had to even sit down in the shower - too much effort to stand.
I am in DBT therapy and I know my therapist will ask me what triggered me. But I have no idea why I woke up like this. Does this happen to any of you?? Any thoughts on what I am supposed to tell my therapist (because she does not accept "I don't know"). ![]() |

Hmmm... I'd be inclined to answer a therapist who won't accept "I don't know" with something like this:
Quote:
I hope your current therapist is genuinely trying to help you and not one of those people who is more interested in immediate answers than in the truth. ![]()

In my opinion depression doesn't always need a trigger. For me it most often comes for no reason at all. Therapist tend not to believe in a biological basis it seems. I tend to come up with triggers just because I am baffled as to how it happened and they may have had nothing to do with it. It could be the damn alignment of the moon and venus for all I know. Mine has traditionally been very seasonal and three or four times a years things go whacko.
If there is no obvious trigger tell her my genes decided to flip on me and it is biological and no one knows the answer.

Hi James (still not calling you I don't matter!!
![]() But, although it might not be linked (and maybe pointless when you try!! ![]() And then maybe have a think about what might have helped a bit more in the past day/s e.g. being able to talk a little more to people who are more understanding? And from that maybe you can try to find/put in place some more tools/coping strategies to help you just a little in coping with what might be going on for you?? ![]() Alison |

I have the same thing sometimes. T will ask what the trigger was, and I'm like. Um, well, I was sleeping, and then I woke up, and I was sad already.
