Lester burnham was depressed.

Now was he depressed through out the whole movie or did he break his depression with his antics, not giving a damn, let's wife cheat, trying to sleep with his daughters friend?

Or was his depression broken when he turned down his daughters friend?

He did appear content at the end. I can't remember if he was still smoking pot or if he gave that up.

I think his depression was a midlife crisis and an identity crisis. Situational. Not what I would call clinical depression.

Yes, I agree with you, zinco. I got "depressed" when I reached 46 and realized Life was at least half over and I did not need to worry about what I was going to be when I grew up anymore. But it's a normal part of life, part of one's "midlife crisis".

I think not liking his job and getting fired, etc. were hard for him but his creative antics like the blackmailing and ability to exercise as well as his interest in Angela show he could not have been too clinically depressed.
