Yesterday I saw my primary therapist. She had extra concern for myself (and other patients) following the Robin Williams thing..... She even said that one of the psychiatrist sites that she visits basically put out an alert to all therapists to be on high alert following this high profile suicide.

So...... I had to go through even more than usual scrutiny. You may want to be extra careful on what you say to your therapist - because they may be more opt to have you go in-patient than normal. I know my therapist pushed me on it a couple of times and she is very anti in-patient (she teaches DBT so she prefers distress tolerance skills over "avoidance").

Take care all

It sure doesn't make sense to me. It does a good job of reminding me why I refuse to go back to therapy, though.

Makes sense... was triggered badly the other day, walked into a shop, and bold as brass, saw the headline on one newspaper in big letters saying how he'd done it (both methods have been prominent in my mind)... didn't need to see that **** and my mood plummeted... and that's with therepy, medication and support I'm receiving.

Must be awful for those who have no support at present and are having such a high profile piece of news shoved in their faces... it's trigger central and stupidly irresponsible of the media (sorry, it makes me really mad so perhaps I have blinkers on, I don't know )

Glad to know that they're paying attention...often when there is an incident like this the opposite happens - apathy about it...I know that this suicide has affected me terribly...

This suicide has affected me greatly as well. My therapist agreed that it freaked her out too. We talked about it a bit, but she didn't seem more alert than usual.
Thanks for this!

It made me feel very vulnerable...as in not even all the resources at my disposal can protect me...

I feel kind of similarly, I mean I prefer to know...but also hearing about it is difficult. As though I am not actively suicidal I have been struggling with suicidal ideation past few weeks just not to the point of planning anything....but yeah initially hearing about it gave me thoughts i don't really want....but then the media is playing it up a crap load I have not watched the news or anything but I still am fed up about what I have heard of the media via a couple discussions on the topic via forums.

But yeah I don't think it is entirely a bad thing for therapists too take extra care to make sure their clients aren't struggling more with suicidal thoughts due to all the exposure to details of it. I hate to think there are manipulative therapists that would use it as an excuse to needlessly have someone go inpatient...but there probably is, I am sure a lot though would be looking out for this out of concern not to try and force hospitalize them just because.
