Hi , I'm new here. I just have a question about taking time off work for stress leave. Basically I have been working for the past 2 years straight and I would say the past year has been getting harder and harder for me.Not only is there job related issues going on but my mental health is in very poor state. I've been stressed, having anxiety and panic attacks, PTSD flashbacks, majorly depressed and sleepless at night. I really think that it would be wise for me to take some time off and possibly get myself some counseling. However, my doctor is away right now on maternity leave and it takes ages to even get into the clinic I usually go to. If I go to a walk in clinic and explain my situation, would they be able to provide me with a doctor's note so that I would be able to let my employer know that I will be taking the time off? I am considering taking approximately 3 months off so I can get myself some much needed help. Thank You

hi mistylu
I think if you explain it like that, that they may do so, it is worth a shot. welcome to psych central. you will find we have several forums where you can post about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. you will get a lot of support here. again, welcome

I think you will need a formal note from a primary care doc, not a walk in clinic. Especially for months off. Can you get in to see your regular docs partner?

Thanks everyone. I am going to go to the walk in tomorrow to see a doctor who I've seen a few times before so perhaps that will make things a little easier. I am a little nervous about how I am going to say it exactly as I am unsure if they will reject me or not but it's definitely worth a shot as my regular doctor's office isn't taking appointments for another month from now since they are incredibly busy. Hopefully it will all go well since I really need to take this time off to sort myself out, at least just a bit.
